Nathan Riebli is an enthusiastic composer, performer, and director from the San Francisco bay Area. Nathan's flare for new music and exuberance on the podium has made him a hot ticket in the Bary Area Music scene. Nathan received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of the Pacific in 2007 and a Master of Music from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 2009, both in composition. During the summer of 2004 he served as a student ambassador to China for the University of Pacific, and returned in 2008 to research opera and folk music at the Central Conservatory in Beijing. Mr. Riebli's composition awards include Third Place in the 2010 Asia America Symphony Association International Competition for Orchestra Composition, Alternate in the 2010 Opera Vista Festival, Outstanding Achievement in Composition in 2007 from the University of the Pacific, and Highly Commended by the 2005 Arklow International Music Composition Competition of Ireland. |

In 2007 Mr. Riebli’s first opera, Song of the Cricket – A Tragic Opera in One Act, was performed by the UOP Conservatory of Music Opera Department for New Voices, New Opera from Pacific. In 2008 he was commissioned to write A Welcome Rain One Spring Night for the Atholton High School Chamber Orchestra of Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Riebli’s second opera, Rock Hard Woman – A Comic Book Opera, was premiered in 2009 as part of the UMKC Opera Scenes concert. In 2010 Nathan composed music for Sci Fi writer Geoff Ryman's novel The Child Garden, as part of an audio version of the work. Nathan also writes music for film and television, his credits include music for Access Hollywood on E! Television, 2 feature length films, and five student films. Nathan’s composition teachers include Robert Coburn, Francois Rose, Kohei Mukai, Zhou Long, James Mobberley, Joao Pedro Oliveira, John Psathas, and Chen Yi. Mr. Riebli is also an avid instrumentalist and director, and performs regularly around the San Francisco Bay Area. He recieved an Excellence in Performance Scholarship for tuba to both UOP and UMKC, where he played in wind ensemble and orchestra. Nathan sings tenor and has accompanied and directed the Occidental Community Choir. Nathan has played tuba with the Stockton Symphony, Ukiah Symphony, Santa Rosa Wind Symphony, Santa Rosa Chamber Orchestra, Santa Rosa Reading Orchestra, Santa Rosa Wine Country Brass Quintet, Copeland Creek Brass, and the Bill Horvitz Expanded Band. Nathan is director of the Sebastopol Community Band and is instructor of tuba at the Santa Rosa Junior College. His tuba teachers include Douglas Hunt and Thomas Stein. Nathan also plays piano, guitar, and bagpipes. |
